Warning:
Containdicated in Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Do not use when patient is taking atorvastatin (Lipitor), cisplatin, or hepatotoxic drugs. Caution with PPIs, monoamine oxidase inhibitor drugs. Proteinuria due to chronic nephritis

Renal diseases
Chen Yiping et al. reported the effects of treating 30 cases of chronic renal failure with Jin Shui Bao (a product made from Cordyceps). After one month’s treatment, the patients’ renal function was improved significantly, which was manifested as obviously decreased creatinine and urea nitrogen in the blood compared with those before treatment, increased creatinine clearance and hemoglobin. Natural Cordyceps and other cultured Cordyceps preparation (Zhi Ling Capsule) had certain effects too. Shen Lingmei treated 18 cases of chronic nephritis with cultured Cordyceps, it was observed that the renal function was improved and urine protein decreased obviously.1
Cured Rehmannia root (Radix Rehmanniae Glutinosae Conquitae) Shu Di Huang
Diuretic Action
Intravenous injection of the di huang extract to anesthetized dogs increased the urine output per unit time; the action mechanism probably related to the cardiotonic action and dilation of renal arteries However, a recent report failed to prove the presumed diuretic action of the decoction and alcohol extract in rats The Rehmannia and Six Herbs Compound (Rhizoma Rehmanniae Praeparata, Fr.uctus Corni, Rhizoma Dioscorea, Cortex Moutan, Rhizoma Alimatis, and Poria in proportion of 8:4:4:3:3:3 prepared as decoction), given to rats with renal hypertension at the dose of 1.5 g/kg daily for 6 days per week, significantly lowered blood pressure, improved renal.function and decreased the mortality rate of the animals.1
Asiatic Cornelian Cherry fruit (Fructus Corni Officinalis) Shan Zhu Yu
Diuretic effect and function of lowering blood pressure
Liquid extract of shan zhu yu has diuretic effect on anesthetized dog and can also lower blood pressure.
Prostatic hyperplasia
Tong Qian Tang (experiential formula): shu di, shan zhu yu, 12g each; rou gui, bai zhu, chuan shan jia, dang gui, niu xi, hai zao, kun bu, wang bu liu xing, 10g each; fu ling 20g; ze xie 15g. Modify the formula according to TCM differentiation. 1 dose every day, water decoction. After 30~60 days’ treatment, 48 out of 52 cases were effective.1

Chyluria

Poria sclerotium (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos) Fu Ling
Chylous urine due to filariasis
ku shen 20g; bing lang, di long, bi xie, hai zao, 10g each; shan zha, 30g; fu ling, che qian zi, 15g each; water decoction. The preparation may be changed to honeyed pill after symptoms disappeared.
Formula consisting of che qian cao, shan zha, fu ling, bi xie, bing lang, di long and hai zao was used to treat 32 cases of chylous urine in the late stage of filariasis, 1 dose daily, 15 days as a course of treatment. 20 cases were cured, 8 markedly effective and 3 improved.
Prostatic hyperplasia
Sheng Jiang Yi Qi Jie Long Tang (che qian cao, huang qi, jie geng, sheng ma, dang gui wei, tao ren, niu xi, wang bu liu xing, fu ling, gan cao shao, etc.) was used to treat 34 cases of senile prostatic hyperplasis, and 23 were markedly effective, 8 effective.
